• Gunbalanya is a community of ten language groups but mainly Kunwinjku .




• Gunbalanya is next to the Alligator river and the area has abundant wildlife including ducks and barramundi fish.




• Traditional painting with ochre on bark has been practiced for many thousands of years.

Gunbalanya Style

• Gunbalanya style is mostly traditional images of spirits, Mimi's and Wanjina.




• A shortage of bark in the 1990's forced local painters to start painting with ochre on paper primed with gouache.




• Arnhem style is interesting because it tell traditional stories in a single work.
